Cecil Hills traces its roots back to 1817, when John Wylde was granted 2,000 acres in the Parish of Cabramatta. He named the estate after his family property in Cheshunt, England. Although Wylde soon left to become Chief Justice of the Cape of Good Hope, his wife Elizabeth remained and managed the land until 1864. The area stayed largely agricultural until the late 20th century, before being developed into the suburb now known as Cecil Hills in 1992.
